We spotted this interesting idea: improve the robustness of printed objects by altering the mix. Evidently a Swinburne professor
mixed iron powder with a nylon polymer, extruded it into a composite filament for their Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) machine and printed some inserts.
This increased the longevity of the printed parts substantially. Even better, they did not have to modify the printer in any significant way, other than some minor adjustments.
Why is this important? I think that steps like this will lead to the standard methods of getting around the "fragile object" problem, where printed objects are to be seen and not touched!
