Yet another low-cost 3D printer has suddenly appeared on the market: the Afinia H-Series 3D Printer, produced by Afina, which appears to be a division of Minnesota-based Microboards LLC, who specialize in printing solutions of various kinds.
Located in Chanhassen, Minnesota, they are only a few short miles from Stratasys headquarters. Coincidence?
The relevant specs are:
- Single extruder, ABS/PLA 1.7mm filament
- Small portable unit weighing only 11 lbs (5 Kg)
- Resolution of between 0.2-0.4mm
- Build envelope of 140x140x135mm
- Comprehensive set of tools included
The included software (PC and Mac) provides a ready-to-print out of the box experience. Models can be adjusted during the workflow and support is automatically generated.
The price of this unit is USD$1499, comparable to others.
But there's one more thing: this unit seems very familiar. It looks very much like the PP3DP Up! 3D printer and so does the software and the associated tool kit. Perhaps Microboards is now reselling PP3DP machines under their own brand?
