BadBrad is back at it, and this time he’s somehow managed to infiltrate the secret Desktop Factory laboratories to try out the highly anticipated, world’s first sub-USD$5,000 3D printer.

The object he chose to print was an iPhone case, and as you’ll see in the video, it’s a little bit rough around the edges. But it is definitely a 3D printed object. Brad explains what he learned about the printer from Desktop Factory’s CEO Cathy Lewis. Among his findings:

  • The sample object is close to the final minimum thickness (0.08″) of the device’s capability
  • Some flexibility in the material is present
  • A few rough area on certain portions of the model
  • The part was torch-braised to smooth out the rough surface

Well done, Brad!
