Shapeways Bends Metal… and Thinking

Shapeways offers metal prints with their new stylus generator, and we think they are quite amazing. The level of detail present in the image above, combined with the metallic material evokes a feeling we don’t get too often when examining 3D printed objects: it’s not plastic!

It’s metal, obviously, but it just *looks* so different. And if it looks different to us, it’s going to look different to the many who dismiss 3D printing as a technology suitable only for printing flimsy plastic toys. This is much more real; bring on the metal!

Hopefully, people will consider the number of small metal objects lying around the home and office and wonder how many of them could be produced in this way.
