Sponsored by TEDxSMU and SculptCAD, the Rapid Artists project borings together a dozen Texas artists who will attempt to use contemporary 3D printing tech to produce works of art in ways they’ve never tried before. They’re using 3D modelling software to create designs in a variety of materials. The artists were selected late in 2009 and have been busy working on their sculptures this year.

The event is part of TEDxSMU on September 14th, where one of the artists will speak on their experience. If you’re in Dallas on the 14th, you might want to secure a ticket (USD$15 in advance, USD$20 at the door) to see and hear this interesting event.
