Shapeways Pops!

Shapeways has introduced yet another way to produce 3D models you can print with their  3D printservice: Image Popper. How does it work? Very simply: you upload a 2D image and then “raise” it to the desired depth.

If this sounds too simple to produce useful models, you’d be wrong. In our experience, one of the most popular items to print are names, icons or other highly personalized “collectables”. An object with someone’s name never fails to get a smile, and Image Popper lets anyone easily produce one.

This is yet another great method Shapeways has introduced to encourage those without 3D modeling skills to use their service. And that’s the kind of thing we need a lot more of.

  1. I would not order any thing from shapeways – a model can arrive either good or bad – its 3D printing … one model after another so quality isn't high.

In my opinion its a waste of money.
