Netherlands-based Leapfrog 3D Printers is developing a new more capable 3D printer called the “Bolt” and they’re beginning to leak some information about it.

The Bolt is apparently to be released in June, but they’re not saying too much about it yet. Some of the features are:

  • Dual extruders
  • Closed build volume for heat capture
  • Air filtration to remove odors and airborne particles
  • Apparently up to 200% faster printing
  • Easy-to-use color touch panel
  • WiFi network attachment
  • Remote browser control of the printer through an integrated web server
  • Integrated webcam for live views of printing
  • Automated filament detection to avoid print failures due to insufficient filament

These are all very good features that ultimately should be included in every 3D printer sold, but today they’re found on few machines.

It seems that Leapfrog is positioning this machine for professional use, which makes much sense to me, as that’s where the money is in desktop 3D printing these days.

But what does it look like? That sketch-like dark view at top is actually all they’ll show of the machine so far. While there’s really not much to see, it does seem to indicate an intriguing case style with several angled sections.

There’s also a brief, 19 second video that illustrates some of the features:

Of course, I don’t know what the price of this item will be. I don’t even know what it looks like! But I’m very sure they’ll tell us in June when it’s launched.
