Located on a quiet, tree-lined residential street near Stanford University, the HP garage is a symbol of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.

In this very garage college friends Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard built their dream. which eventually became the giant we know today as “HP”. Their company was founded in 1939 and named “HP”, rather than “PH”, with a coin toss.

The HP Garage is a private museum where the company Hewlett-Packard (HP) was founded. It is located at 367 Addison Avenue in Palo Alto, California. It is considered to be the “Birthplace of Silicon Valley.” In the 1930s, Stanford University and its Dean of Engineering Frederick Terman began encouraging faculty and graduates to stay in the area instead of leaving California, and develop a high-tech region. HP founders William Hewlett and David Packard are considered the first Stanford students who took Terman’s advice (Source: Wikipedia).

The garage was their research lab, development workshop and Manufacturing facility for early products, including the Model 200A audio oscillator. An interesting name and marketing tactic. The audio oscillator was the first and rather than naming it version 1 it was named the 200A.

While the action that took place in this historic garage occurred over 75 years ago, the same activities take place today.

It takes place in the workshops around the world where innovative people continue to invent and improve 3D printers, all continually pushing the envelope of the technology forward. Be they large or small, the work is essentially the same.

The HP Garage is an old building, but from it and similar workshops new worlds emerge. Keep it coming!
