Figulo Prints Ceramics

There is no shortage of 3D print services these days. Some are large, some are small, but virtually all of them have a strategy of expanding their scope as wide as possible.

Consider Shapeways, who have the peculiar habit of adding new materials almost weekly, or Kraftwurx, who offer over 100 different materials.

This is quite different from the strategy pursued by Boston 3D print service startup Figulo, who specialize in 3D printed ceramics – only. No metal, no plastic. Just. Ceramics.

As you might imagine, a company specializing in ceramics like Figulo provides the entire lifecycle required for ceramic 3D printing, including: 3D scanning, 3D printing, firing, glazing – including custom glazes.

While custom glazes are possible, they present a very decent selection of standard glazes:
  • Gloss White
  • Satin White
  • Gloss Black
  • Satin Black
  • Gloss Submarine yellow
  • Gloss Dream tangerine
  • Gloss Aquarius blue
  • Gloss Oyster blue
  • Gloss Day green
  • Gloss Twisted turquoise

We’ve seen many 3D print services specializing in the type of object, but not many specialize in materials. Could this be the start of “niche” 3D material print services? Will we see other material-focused services like a Wood Service? Glass?
