The online retailer known for low prices now sells what seems to be a pretty decent 3D printer – for a great price.

Monoprice, known for their incredibly inexpensive cables and connectors, has been getting into more expensive gear in the last few years. Items such as 30” monitors, sports cameras and now 3D printers grace their pages.

The machine, with the rather anonymous name of “Dual Extrusion ABS/PLA/PVA 3D Printer – Black Metal Housing” is priced at USD$1,199. For that you’ll receive a machine with these specifications:

  • 1.75mm filament
  • Dual extruders
  • Heated metal print bed (meaning you can print ABS, PVA and other materials)
  • 0.1mm layer size
  • Metal frame and case
  • 225 x 145 x 150 mm build volume
  • LCD operations panel
  • Basic tools and SD Card
  • Includes TWO 1Kg spools of PLA filament (Black and White)
  • Fully assembled

From what we can see, this machine appears to be a MakerBot Replicator 2-like printer – it apparently accepts X3G files, the format used by MakerBot. Clones like this have been around a few years now and are often quite mature so we may expect the Monoprice machine to be of similar quality.

Can you order this machine now? Not exactly: it’s only available by Pre-Order at the moment. You can get on the waiting list if you like.
