17-Year Old Creates 3D Printed Robot

Many people build robots using 3D printing, but this very unusual specimen was designed and printed by a seventeen year old from the UK.

Alexander Maund’s “Autonomous Walking Robot” is fascinating to watch; it almost looks like a NASA experiment for traversing other worlds. The “active” component must have a simple motor in it that causes rotation. Gravity does the rest to move the walker forward.

Maund does not appear to have published the design for the robot, but apparently he did produce the item on his Replicator 2 in PLA plastic, requiring only six hours of print time. No doubt this unique design will inspire others to create similar gravity walkers.

One more thing: what amazing things might Maund be designing years from now?
