A new project hopes to bring 3D print training to the masses with an online academy.
The 3D Heights Academy launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for their project. They say:
People will now have access to great 3D Printing, 3D Scanning and 3D Designing course-ware via video, documents, live 1-1 assistance, and online exam reinforcement.
The folks behind the project are 3D Heights, a New York City-based 3D print retail operation. Like other retail shops, 3D Heights provides resales of equipment, supplies, printing services and training to ensure customers can successfully use the equipment.
They’ve used many machines and taught many people, so it is only natural they’d try to convert this training expertise into an online version that can reach many more people.
We think this is a good idea. Recently we’ve lamented the lack of easy-to-access online training that could help move 3D printing technology into the hands of more consumers, who are often uncomfortable with the existing DIY forums to obtain expertise. If 3D Heights can successfully transform their in-person teaching program to an online version, this could be a platform used by many smaller manufacturers to help educate their customers.
