Stratasys, makers of high-end 3D printers, announced they’ve taken on a “record number of orders” for their newest product, the FDM 900mc direct digital manufacturing machine. In this case, the number is 17 pre-sold units. Now hold, on, you say, 17 isn’t a very big number.

Actually it can be a large number. Remember the basic rule of business: sell many inexpensive things or a few very expensive things. Stratasys is pursuing the latter strategy, as outlined here.

The 900mc is a truly amazing machine, able to produce parts with a very high accuracy, unlike many lesser 3D printers. But, as always, you get what you pay for. Keep it comin’, Stratasys!
