ELEGOO announced a new 3D printing peripheral: the H1 HT Filament Dryer.
This inexpensive unit is able to dry a 1kg spool of filament, regardless of the filament brand.
The key functional feature is that this is considered a “high temperature” dryer because its maximum operating temperature is 85°C. This is the heat required to properly dry several types of engineering materials, which have higher heat resistance.
Like most dryers, the H1 HT uses heat and air circulation to dry the material. The device includes automatically operated dual vents when drying, which also seal up tightly when drying has completed. This means you can use the H1 HT as a spool storage container that keeps the filament dry.
For moisture-misbehaving materials like TPU, nylon, or some composite filaments, they can remain in the H1 HT and be printed directly from there. That’s accomplished with a special dedicated port through which the filament travels toward the 3D printer.
ELEGOO seems to have focused on ease of use with this device, as it includes a 3.5” colour touch screen that clearly displays drying status as it operates. There are also eleven presets for typical materials, making it extraordinarily easy to operate — just pick the material and the time and temperature are automatically set.
What’s most interesting about the H1 HT is the price: only US$70 for the entire unit. That’s a price that basically any 3D printer operator can afford, and the print quality improvement should quickly pay back that investment.
