This week’s selection was seen at Euromold 2012: Accommo by artists Levin Wagner and Jannis Thiele of the University of Arts, Berlin, Germany.

This design was also selected as one of the top ten finishers in the 2012 Extreme Redesign 3D Printing Challenge by Dimension/Stratasys.

The Accommo at first appears to be a simple cylinder section, but underneath it is far more complex. The team designed a strong but flexible shape which can be bent into a smooth curve without breaking. On top of this curve are plates to approximate a surface.

Smooth and regular on top, complex underneath. Much like life.
