Researchers have developed a way to use 3D printing to create an implantable custom-fit heart membrane.
The process involves 3D scanning the patientās heart to create a 3D model. This model is then used to create an overlay 3D model of the membrane that precisely fits the subjectās heart.
But why do this at all? What benefits can be obtained?
Itās whatās IN the membrane that matters. The membrane can accommodate a variety of sensors to detect Ph, temperature or other metrics continuously. Even better, the membrane can deliver electric shocks to stimulate the heart in case of troubles. The sensors will no doubt be used to perform much research that has not previously been possible.
Talk about personalization; this could be the ultimate personalization: a membrane that fits only your heart.
