Creality is facing a financial loss.

An official statement from Shenzhen Creality 3D Technology Co., Ltd. (a.k.a. Creality) forecasts a financial loss for the first half of 2026. They write:

“The board of directors of the Company wishes to inform the shareholders and potential investors of the Company that, based on the preliminary assessment of the unaudited consolidated management accounts of the Group for the six months ended June 30, 2026, and information currently available to the Company, the Group is expected to record a loss attributable to owners of the Company of approximately RMB53 million (US$7.8M) to RMB63 million (US$9.3M) for the first half of 2026, as compared with a profit attributable to owners of the Company of approximately RMB107.49 million (US$16M) for the corresponding period in 2025.”

This is surprising for a company that was previously profitable before its recent IPO, and is one of the leading players in 3D printing. They are one of the “Four Dragons” of China, along with Bambu Lab, ELEGOO, and Anycubic, all of which comprise about 88% of the desktop 3D printer market according to a CONTEXT analysis.

Why the loss? Creality explains that it is a combination of the following:

  • Intensified promotional efforts and pricing
  • concessions to expand its overseas market presence, inventory clearance
  • Expansion of its online direct sales business, brand marketing and promotional activities
  • Increase in investment in technology research and development initiatives, and the
  • expansion of its research and development team
  • Foreign exchange currency losses.

We don’t know which factor was the largest, but R&D expenses are usually good because they should lead to better products in the future. However, it also seems they are facing stiff price competition, just like everyone else.

It’s very possible the company will return to profitability in the future as the market continues to shake out.

This is an interesting view into the state of the four dragons, as Creality is the only one of the four that is publicly traded and therefore must expose some of its internal financial data. It’s likely the other three are also facing similar challenges, but we can’t know for sure because they are private companies.

Desktop 3D printing is a very tough business.
