A change to a brand, but could the equipment change, too?
Trumpf was one of the most respected names in additive manufacturing, producing industrial grade metal LBPF systems for industry. Trumpf is a German firm founded over a hundred years ago that produces machine tools and laser systems.
One of their lines of business was additive manufacturing under the Trumpf brand, leveraging their extensive knowledge of laser technology. The brand was, as far as we know, as successful as any other player in the metal 3D printing space.
Then earlier this year the management at Trumpf decided to exit the AM business entirely. This is possibly due to increasing competition, and perhaps a desire to focus on their core products. Either way, Trumpf sold their AM line of business to Lenbach Equity Opportunities III, a venture capital fund. During the transition, the operation continued to use the Trumpf branding.
It was unclear at the time what fate might befall the AM business, but now we know a lot more.
The new management has decided to rename the company to “ATLIX”. New CEO Matthias Himmelsbach explains:
“ATLIX is born from a strong foundation and looks to the future with the same determination and vision that has guided our historic growth. We are committed to continue strengthening long-term relationships with our existing customers and to developing new ones.”
The company plans to continue to support existing Trumpf (now ATLIX) customers, and even expand their product portfolio with new products and services.
What might those new products be? Well, we don’t know yet, as it seems the company will be announcing something in coming weeks.
