Taiwan-based 3D printer manufacturer XYZprinting announced the availability of their products at Walmart, the world’s biggest retailer.

The company has all of their products now shown on Walmart.com’s shopping site, including the new and tiny da Vinci Junior 1, da Vinci 1.1 Plus, da Vinci Duo 2.0, da Vinci 1.0 All-in-One, and the da Vinci 1.0.

As the world’s biggest retailer, it is important for vendors to market their products through Walmart. The volume of products flowing through Walmart is unprecedented in human history, and certainly 3D printing companies would want to hitch a ride on that train.

But there’s a cost to do so: Walmart is notorious for driving very difficult deals and extreme requirements on supply chain processes. But that’s the cost of doing business. Some smaller vendors of other products have found that the effort to do business with Walmart can sometimes be worse than the benefits. It remains to be seen which 3D printer vendors will survive and thrive within the Walmart ecosystem.

For now, we see the following vendors presented in Walmart:

  • Afina
  • Cubify / 3D Systems
  • FlashForge
  • Leapfrog
  • MakerBot
  • MakeMendel
  • Printrbot
  • Q3D
  • Robox
  • Solidoodle

All of these vendors should be able to supply large quantities of product upon demand by Walmart, likely as part of their deal with the retailer. If not, we may not see them last very long in Walmart’s showcase. XYZprinting is a large and sophisticated manufacturer, so we see them thriving in the Walmart environment.
