Looking for International Women’s Day Plans? Women in 3D Printing Events Go Global

International Women’s Day is this Friday, March 8, and Women in 3D Printing ambassadors are hosting events around the world.

Each year, International Women’s Day celebrates the achievements of women. In the 3D printing industry, women make up a minority — but a fast-growing one. Women in 3D Printing (Wi3DP) continues to grow as well, with women and men throughout the world coming together at events and online to share knowledge and expertise.

Celebrating all members of the industry is helping additive manufacturing to become more diverse. Numerous studies have shown the positive impact of a more diverse workforce, as employees from different backgrounds bring different perspectives to the table. As March celebrates women all month and the 8th in particular is a day dedicated to women.

The official International Women’s Day site says:

“A balanced world is a better world. How can you help forge a more gender-balanced world?

Celebrate women’s achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality.”

This year’s theme is #BalanceforBetter, a campaign running through all of 2019.

“Balance is not a women’s issue, it’s a business issue. The race is on for the gender-balanced boardroom, a gender-balanced government, gender-balanced media coverage, a gender-balance of employees, more gender-balance in wealth, gender-balanced sports coverage,” the site explains.

“Gender balance is essential for economies and communities to thrive.”

In preparation for International Women’s Day 2019, local ambassadors for Wi3DP have planned their monthly meetups to coincide.

Looking to celebrate? There’s probably an event near you!

More than 20 events are planned for chapters in Australia, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, South Africa, the US, Canada, Chile, and more. You can check at Wi3DP for a full list of events happening Friday.

Remember: all are welcome, women and men, veterans and newbies, designers and marketers, executives and interns. The community is the focus, and that includes all of us!

As 3D printing continues to grow as a technology and industry, it’s the people behind the advances that will guide the path. Celebrating all of our participants — and indeed striving toward that #BalanceforBetter — is a great way to step toward a more mature industry.
