With additive manufacturing evolving so rapidly, it’s challenging to keep track of the latest emerging technologies.

Fortunately, AMT – The Association for Manufacturing Technology is bringing the top AM technology providers and experts together in one place at IMTS 2022 – The International Manufacturing Technology Show, which runs from Sept. 12-17 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

IMTS 2022 will feature exhibits, demonstrations, conference speakers, expert panels, and workshops showcasing AM hardware and software solutions that help deliver parts and products to a wide range of industries from aerospace and automotive to construction and medical.

“It’s difficult to find perspective in the breadth of AM technologies until you see them in the context of the broader manufacturing tech industry at IMTS 2022,” says Dayton Horvath, Director of Emerging Technology and Investments at AMT. “Additive manufacturing is one tool in a very large toolbox that helps address today’s manufacturing challenges.”

IMTS 2022 will provide multiple resources for manufacturers at all levels of AM knowledge, from the introductory topics for those considering AM to intermediate and business topics for end users seeking state-of-the-art solutions.

AM4U Area

For those less familiar with AM, the best place to start is at the AM4U area, powered by AMT, Mesago (the organizers of Formnext), and Gardner Business Media. This live learning space will provide attendees with introductions to some of the most important additive manufacturing industry topics and what it means for manufacturing capabilities broadly. Live programming will be every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and feature guest speakers, panel discussions, Q&A sessions, and even a mini-Jeopardy session.

Additive Manufacturing Pavilion

More than 100 exhibitors representing industry-leading providers will exhibit the latest solutions in AM technologies, materials, hardware, and software in the Additive Manufacturing Pavilion, located in the West Building of McCormick Place. Exhibitors will demonstrate a variety of processes, such as vat photopolymerization, powder fed fusion, binder jetting, material jetting, sheet lamination, material extrusion, and directed energy deposition. Another nearly 200 exhibitors with equipment and software related to additive manufacturing are spread throughout all four buildings of McCormick Place. Additional software providers will be exhibiting in the Controls & CAD/CAM Pavilion. Be sure to also visit the Metal Removal Pavilion, in the South Building, as some exhibitors have subtractive manufacturing machines that include additive processes.

3D Printing Workshop for Job Shops

On Sept. 15 is the 3D Printing Workshop for Job Shops. Presented by Additive Manufacturing Media, Modern Machine Shop, and Gardner Business Media and in association with IMTS 2022 and AMT, this half-day workshop is the perfect first step for job shops and contract manufacturers to learn about applying lower-cost 3D printing technology to make machine tools more efficient. Attendees will learn how shops can benefit from design iteration, prototyping, tooling, production, and more.

Additive Manufacturing Conference

Co-located with IMTS 2022 on Sept. 14-15 and presented by  Additive Manufacturing Media, Modern Machine Shop, and Gardner Business Media and in association with IMTS 2022, and AMT, the Additive Manufacturing Conference is a technical conference and business networking event focused on the industrial applications of additive technologies for making functional components and end-use production parts.

As the first and only event focused exclusively on additive technologies for industrial part production, the conference takes a practical, applications-based look at the machines, materials and methodologies being used to create end-use tools and components. The event is designed for owners, executives and engineers at contract manufacturers, as well as OEMs involved in durable goods manufacturing.

“Additive manufacturing is taking huge, transformative leaps,” says Pete Zelinski, Program Director and Editor-in-Chief for Additive Manufacturing Media. “IMTS has become a major showcase for how 3D printing technology is changing the landscape of manufacturing. Bringing the conference here allows us to explore the connection between established manufacturing technologies and the promise that additive brings.”
