AM Solutions announced a new, compact post-processing solution for polymer powder 3D printing systems.

The company is known for its industrial post-processing gear, such as their massive S2 system we covered a few years ago. Now they’ve come up with a much smaller option, the S1 Basic.

What does it do for you? It can accept freshly 3D-printed parts made with the SLS, MJF, SAF, and HSS processes — in other words, any commercial powder-based polymer 3D printing system. It can then not only remove stray powder, but also condition the part surfaces using blasting media.

AM Solutions says that parts coming out of the S1 Basic are immediately ready for any further post-processing steps, such as colour dyeing.

The S1 Basic is indeed compact, with a cleaning volume of only 100 x 100 x 100 mm. But that’s in “automated mode”. If you want to revert to “manual mode”, the S1 Basic can handle parts up to 350 x 200 x 200 mm. However, for most operations, I suspect they will focus on the automation.

You might think that this type of post-processing is straightforward, but you’d be wrong. There’s quite a bit involved. For example, AM Solutions has included a special anti-static feature in the S1 Basic that prevents stray powder from adhering to parts. They’ve also designed the system for easy operation and maintenance. It has a relatively quiet noise level of only 75 dBA.

The other feature is a bit less visible: this is a smaller device, and therefore it is less expensive than the other larger systems produced by AM Solutions. This means that it will be affordable to a wider range of customers, including not only smaller operations but also those that only require the function occasionally.

With the increased sales of SLS, SAF, and MJF systems lately, it’s not surprising that AM Solutions decided to market this size of machine.
