BCN3D announced a new version of their Omega I60 industrial 3D printer, the G2.
There have been questions about the company over the past year, as they experienced serious financial challenges. The long-term viability of the 3D printer manufacturer was in question last summer, as they abruptly declared bankruptcy.
A few months later, the company was rescued by a Spanish investor, Quantum Investment Group.
While that was seemingly good news, there were still questions as to whether the company would be able to move forward. Then, only a few weeks ago, the company released a new 3D printer, the Omega I60 G2, the first while under the new ownership.
The Omega I60 was already quite a capable device, so what’s new in the G2?
- BCN3D has revamped the automated calibration system on the device, which now makes use of AI technology to provide enhanced performance.
- They’ve beefed up the information security architecture of the G2, which should benefit corporate operators — a “no WiFi” system is available.
- A new intelligent spool system management materials in a “seamless” manner.
- They’ve dramatically upgraded the cloud-based networking platform and the slicing software.
- The actively heated build chamber (120C) now contains a webcam for remote monitoring and AI use.
- The build plate has been re-engineered to provide additional adhesion.
- More sensors monitor filament movement through the system for enhanced reliability.
This is in addition to the previous Omega I60 features, which feature dual independent extruders. This allows for printing of two objects simultaneously, and other modes. The Omega I60 G2 is quite a large system, with a build volume of 450 x 300 x 450 mm.
Intended for factory use, the Omega I60 G2 includes HEPA and activated carbon filters — and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
The system is priced at US$24,500, and preorders close at the end of February.
