HP announced a new industrial 3D printer, the Multi Jet Fusion 1200.
The 1200 is billed as a “compact” system, which could be more affordable for many companies.
The system features a 12-l build volume, and the most notable feature seems to be the print speed. The machine can complete a build in the 12-l chamber in only twelve hours.
Accompanying the printer itself is the materials management system, which HP describes as fully automated. You simply drop in the build chamber, and all stray powder is automatically removed.
The software is also designed to provide a single, easy-to-follow workflow. This should be ideal for companies just starting on their 3D print journey.
The goal here seems to be to simplify activity (and cost) for industrial 3D print operators. They say that “people want parts”, and the Multi Jet Fusion 1200 seems to address that through a combination of ease of use and print speed.
The system is designed to use HP’s 3D HR PA 12 material, which is actually made by well-known polymer provider Evonik. This material also offers substantial reusability: up to 80% of powder in a job can be previously used. This should dramatically reduce the powder cost for operations. They say the material should cost around US$100/kg.
Finally, they say the system, which presumably includes both printer and material handling units, is priced “below USD $60,000”. That’s a pretty decent price for an entire system, and especially one that can crank out parts with a fast throughput rate.
