Phrozen is offering a unique upgrade to one of their popular 3D printers.

Phrozen is well-known for their popular Sonic line of desktop resin 3D printers. The current model is the Phrozen Sonic Mighty Revo, which comes in either 8K or 12K versions. This refers to the resolution of the LCD panel powering the light engine in the devices.

But now they seem to be showing off an upgrade possibility. We saw an upgrade kit that can transform the device into a 16K machine with far higher resolution.

This is not something we’ve seen previously: upgrading an existing resin 3D printer is usually not done. Instead, you usually just buy a better machine. However, Phrozen has decided to offer this upgrade path to Sonic Mighty Revo customers.

We’ve done replacements of LCD panels on other devices, and it’s a pretty serious surgical operation on the machine. I’m hoping Phrozen’s upgrade process is simpler.

We didn’t get a look at the detailed upgrade instructions, but here you can see that the upgrade kit includes many components that require changing, including not only the LCD panel but also the controller board, the ADA Module, a cable, and other items.

Of course, there’s also the new label that you affix on the front of the upgraded machine.

Phrozen representatives were not able to tell us the price or availability of this upgrade kit, and even today I see no mention of it on their website.

The QR code on the instruction page leads to a 404, so it is likely they haven’t launched the upgrade quite yet.

If you happen to own one of these devices, you might keep an eye on Phrozen to see when this upgrade is finally released.
