HP On 3D Printing

GigaOm has posted an interesting video interview with Vyomesh Joshi, Executive Vice President of Imaging & Printing at HP. Joshi speaks of new twists in the 2D print industry, but our interest was perked up towards the 10 minute mark in the video, where he speaks of HP's 3D printing interest.

He said HP has "interesting" 3D printing experiments in their labs that leverages their knowledge of inkjet technology. As an example, he said HP has already created "3d greeting cards". When asked when we might see 3D printing in common use, he said:

"... not like 20 years, you will see it in next 2-3 years."

So, does this mean the US$28B HP printing behemoth will market 3D printers? It seems so. Look out, DesktopFactory!

I am very curious if companies like HP will enter the market for 3D printing. We use 3D printing a lot for scale models for architects and product developers.

cheers
