There’s been an acquisition. Ackuretta has been scooped up by Pac Dent.

If you’re not familiar with Taipei-based Ackuretta, they produce resin 3D printers for the dental industry.

In recent years, they’ve focused on a new concept called a “chairside” dental 3D printer. The idea is to quickly print dental appliances while the patient remains in the chair at the dentist’s office, rather than waiting for a separate service to produce the appliance.

Meanwhile, Pac Dent is a US-based provider of dental products. While their main product is specialty dental resins, they have been growing by acquisition. This not only makes them bigger in general, but allows them to enter different market areas in the dental space.

Recent acquisitions include companies providing ultrasonic scalers and endodontics, and now they are adding a 3D printer system through the Ackuretta acquisition.

There are several interesting benefits to Pac Dent with this move. First, it will allow them to finely tune their own resins to the Ackuretta equipment, making purchasers a bit more confident.

Another aspect is that they are maintaining the open source nature of the system. This is quite unlike those of their major competitors, who push closed systems that try to lock in the client. By having an open system, Pac Dent will offer a solution that does not lock in clients — and that itself could be a major selling feature.

CEO of Pac-Dent Daniel Wang said:

“The most important aspect of this acquisition is how it amplifies our open-system vision. By combining best-in-class materials, intelligent software, and versatile hardware, we are building the most accessible and adaptable digital dentistry platform on the market. Just as important, we are thrilled to welcome Ackuretta’s outstanding international team—spanning Taiwan, France, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, South America, and the Middle East. Their expertise strengthens our innovation pipeline, enhances product reliability, and expands global customer support.”

Pac Dent can now offer a complete end-to-end system for chairside solutions, from resin to equipment to software. That will also be a selling feature, as dental offices typically are not focused on this technology and value an integrated solution that just works.
