This week’s selection is the Octopus Table Lamp by MakerWorld contributor A_ilterish.
This is a simple table lamp, but one that has a very peculiar design. A_ilterish explains:
“This unique table lamp captures the elegance and mystery of the ocean with an ultra-realistic octopus design. Its flowing tentacles, fine detailing, and dynamic stance make it not just a functional light source but also a striking decorative art piece. Perfect for desks, workspaces, or living areas, it blends aesthetic charm with practical use.”
Here’s a short video showing printing, assembly, and use of the lamp:
While the design is complex, the printing is not. A_ilterish has provided two 3MF configurations for printing. One is the entire lamp in a single piece, and the other is a three-part configuration that can print faster. However, you’ll have to assemble the pieces afterwards.
Either way, you will need to install the electrical components. You will need a bulb socket and cable, which are easily sourced from IKEA (The STRÅLA Cord set), which is very inexpensive.
Be sure to avoid printing this in PLA, as it has a relatively low softening temperature. Non-LED bulbs would certainly generate enough heat to cause a drop in the poor octopus’ arm. PETG could be a good choice for materials, and it would also be shiny.
