What other US 3D printer manufacturers are in trouble?

After this week’s news that both 3DEO and Fusion3 are being liquidated, I’m wondering about the health of multiple other smaller US-based 3D printer manufacturers. Some, like Carbon, Formlabs, Stratasys, and 3D Systems, are far larger and in much better shape, some even profitable.

Most of them are in some level of jeopardy, simply because of competition from Asian manufacturers. The Asian competition began years ago as cheap, entry-level systems with poor quality. However, over the years, these companies have gradually increased the capabilities of their systems without substantially raising the unit pricing.

Meanwhile, Western 3D printer manufacturers focused on the professional market: machines with plenty of advanced features, making them have the reliability and higher quality output that professionals require.

But some time over the past couple of years, the capabilities of the inexpensive Asian equipment passed that line, making them compete not only in the entry-level market but also in the professional market. That places all professional equipment manufacturers in a bad spot. Some have already disappeared, as we reported on Fusion3’s demise yesterday.

I then wondered about the remaining US-based 3D printer manufacturers and did some research to see if there are others that have entered bankruptcy. Let’s go through what I found.

re:3D / Gigabot: Appears operational. Their site has a July 6, 2026 engineering update and other 2026 posts, plus a live careers page hiring an Experienced Assembly & Production Specialist in Austin. GSA eLibrary also lists RE3D, Inc. as a small-business GSA MAS contractor.

Hyrel3D: Appears active but is very small. Its site says it sells and ships worldwide from Norcross, GA, and current product pages list Hydra 21, System 30M, Engine SR, and Engine HR. Its wiki shows a 2025 price list, and terms were updated March 3, 2025.

JuggerBot 3D: Appears not only active but growing. Their site has current product/service listings, 2026 copyright, two printer families, services, quote links, and “join our team”. They’ve recently advertised for full-time Hybrid CNC & Additive Manufacturing Operator roles.

nScrypt: Appears operating but small. Its careers page has no current openings but invites resumes. The site has active contact/support/sales emails and an “In The News” page with recent-ish technical/partner items. There was no liquidation/bankruptcy evidence found.

Impossible Objects: Appears active. The site actively markets their CBAM 25, offers parts services/sample parts, and the careers page lists five full-time roles: Mechanical Engineer, Software Engineer, Production Lead, Production Technician/Equipment Operator, and Process Development Technician.

LulzBot/FAME3D: Appears operating. Website is up to date and selling new products; support paths are open, and there is evidence of government contracts.

MELD Manufacturing: Appears to be one of the strongest manufacturers. Its site lists 2026/2027 events, recent posts, a September 2025 DragonForge machine launch, open careers, and a history of government/defense activity.

Airwolf 3D: Appears operating but quite small. The website is live, products are listed for sale, and support channels appear active. However, recent content is from 2025, and their “History of Innovation” infographic ends in 2022.

Analysis

It seems there may be more casualties on the way. Several of the companies above currently sell systems that now compete against the ever-growing Asian systems. Pricing levels are simply not competitive anymore, so these companies may have to rely on other approaches to sell equipment: government purchases only from US manufacturers, for example.

Several companies examined are in good shape, but they have one aspect in common: they are not directly competing with the Asian companies. An example would be JuggerBot3D, which began as a standard desktop FFF system, but now produces large industrial FGF systems with unique features. That seems to be the path to success in this space.
