Design Of The Week: Bucket Handle

This week’s selection is the Bucket Handle by Hans Loeblich (thehans) who is a designer, maker and engineer from Austin, Texas, USA. 

Loeblich designed the bucket handle using Autodesk Fusion 360, OpenSCAD and FreeCAD, printing them on a Voxel OX 8 3D printer.

The bucket handle is an ergonomic handle replacement for 5 gallon buckets. Loeblich had a number of original bucket handles “crumble away”, and sought to design an ergonomic replacement. The resulting design was so good it replaced handles on all buckets, even if they had not “crumbled”. 

The replacement handles worked well on standard steel wire buckets in the size range of 2.5 to 3.75 mm diameter. The handle is designed to snap onto this specific size wire with some force and not fall off thereafter. 

The handles shown at top were 3D printed by a Fabbaloo friend who had much trouble lifting 5-gallon buckets full of water for their aquarium and for her abundance of plants in their condo. These are a game changer for her. They printed the bucket handles on PLA material using a Prusa 3D printer. 

If you happen to have heavy buckets, you might want to try using these incredibly ergonomic handles.
