I had a chat with John Schneider of 3D-Fuel about their plans for PCTG filament.
3D-Fuel is, I believe, the sole provider of PCTG filament in North America (Fiberlogy is the only one in Europe). PCTG is a wonderful material that I and a growing number of others believe should supplant PLA as the default FFF 3D print material.
Why? It’s stronger than PETG, has better layer adhesion than PLA or PETG, has better UV resistance, much better chemical resistance, and has much better thermal resistance than PLA. It’s very easy to print, and I don’t think I’ve had a single print failure when testing PCTG. It’s just a better material, every way you look at it.
Schneider explained that their latest innovation in PCTG material is the introduction of transparent variants. As you can see in these images, the prints made from this transparent PCTG are quite attractive.
3D-Fuel now offers transparent PCTG in four colors: Red, Lime Green, Ultramarine Blue and Signal Orange.
This adds to their increasingly broad selection of PCTG colors, which now numbers 35, according to Schneider. This even includes a new Matte Black option.
What’s next up for PCTG? Schneider explained that they are working on a carbon fiber reinforced version. They haven’t yet determined the ratio of polymer to carbon fiber segments, but PCTG-CF will surely be an incredible material. It would add extreme part strength to all the other advantages of PCTG.
We all need more PCTG.
