Anycubic has launched a very unusual “3D print guarantee” along with their new Kobra X 3D printer.

The company announced the Kobra X a while ago, but it is just now going on sale. The surprise is that they are now offering a 3D print guarantee.

This is to overcome the fear and confusion experienced by some new 3D printer operators that are having issues with their new machine. In spite of many improvements over the past few years, operating a desktop 3D printer can be a challenge for some consumers — the market segment addressed by the new Kobra X.

How does this guarantee work? It’s pretty straightforward, actually.

Anycubic has devised a special “benchmark” 3D print job that, if printed successfully on the Kobra X, means that the machine is deemed “OK”.

The first print on the machine should be the “Official Performance Benchmark”. If it fails for any reason whatsoever, the operator is to contact Anycubic. They say they will provide an “engineering team” to analyze the problem and determine the cause of the issue. They’ll then provide advice, which could be physical or parameter recommendations, that should fix the problem. This is a “customized guidance plan”, according to Anycubic, not just a template solution.

Then there’s this:

“If the issue is confirmed to be related to machine or system performance, we will provide 2 spools of Anycubic PLA filament, sent from current stock (color selection not available), to compensate for the material used during the initial attempt.”

The guarantee program is open only during the launch period of the Kobra X, which runs from now until February 15th. The guarantee is valid for a month, 30 days, after machine delivery. Anycubic re-iterates that it is applicable only to the first print of the official benchmark model, and that modified machines are not eligible.

This is quite an innovation for a new support program, and one that really should be offered by all desktop 3D printer manufacturers. Perhaps today’s machines are so reliable that Anycubic anticipates few calls?

That would be a big shift from the days of old, when 3D printers would break if you looked at them sideways. A guarantee back then would likely have been financially infeasible for any manufacturer to implement.

This just shows us how far the technology has come forward.
