Creality snuck out a new desktop 3D printer: the Ender-3 V4 Combo.
The new system is like all Ender-3s, a bedslinger with an open gantry style. It’s a single-nozzle system that includes all the standard features:
- Automatic calibration
- Color touchscreen
- Die-cast rigid frame
- Easy filament load/unload
- Quiet operation (47dB)
- Quick swap nozzle
- Uniform heating one-piece heat bed
- Integrated with Creality Cloud
- Build volume of 220 x 220 x 235 mm
- Minimum layer height of only 0.1mm
- WiFi network
The Ender-3 V4 seems to be a further refinement of the highly successful Ender-3 series. This time the most interesting feature is a unique “loop” style gantry.
Normally gantries are three parts: two uprights and one spar across to join them. Here Creality has designed a single U-shaped rigid piece of metal. This is a feature I have not seen on any other bedslinger. It will certainly be rigid, and will save some weight as there are fewer bolts and material required.
It may also help with system setup. The Ender-3 V4 system, like all of them, is broken down into a few parts for shipping. Creality says the system can be set up in only minutes, even by those that are “NOT Tech-Savvy”.
There’s also that “Combo” word. The V4 is sold ONLY as a combination of the printer and a CFS unit. The CFS is able to store up to four spools of filament and automatically load/unload the V4 during print jobs. In other words, the V4 becomes a multicolor 3D printer.
The CFS is a pretty smart device, as it can read Creality filament spools via RFID. This means that you can drop in Creality spools and the V4 “knows” exactly what type and colour of materials are available. You can also use third-party spools, but you’ll have to manually identify them to the V4 after loading in the CFS.
Priced at US$399 for the pair of devices, the Ender-3 V4 is a reasonable value, particularly if you are already into the Ender-3 space.
