This week’s selection is the Echo Chair by ZHA and Nagami Design.
The ECHO Chair is a fully 3D printed polymer chair made from recycled materials.
The design is quite unique, as it appears to be two surfaces peeling away from each other. In reality, it’s a single 3D printed piece. The two pieces “echo” each other.
ZHA explains the design approach:
“The 3D-printed ECHO Chair developed by ZHA for Nagami explores an echo as a geometric condition rather than an acoustic phenomenon. Instead of repetition, an echo is understood as a transformation—a single geometric logic unfolding into multiple structural, spatial, and material expressions.”
Nagami Design is a firm specializing in printing furniture from recycled materials. One of the products is the ECHO chair, available in four different colour schemes.
They explain the production approach:
“Produced using large-format continuous extrusion 3D printing, the piece is manufactured in a single uninterrupted process, where geometry, structure, and manufacturing emerge simultaneously.”
They don’t specify the equipment used, but it’s very likely they used a large format pellet/FGF system, which is typical for this type of furniture.
You can actually buy one of the ECHO Chairs from Nagami Design. They’re priced starting at €669 (US$1072) up to €1231 (US$1972), depending on the colour. The most expensive variant is the one pictured above, with colour “Degradado Translucido”.
