Xact Metal announced they’ve achieved very significant growth this year.

The Pennsylvania-based company produces smaller, more affordable LBPF systems that have gradually been gaining in capability.

They report that the company has received 30% more orders in 2025 than they did in the previous year. That’s notable in an industry where many 3D printer manufacturers are flat, declining, or even disappearing entirely.

CEO Juan Mario Gomez said:

“Our growth strategy and product roadmap to expand the use of metal additive manufacturing by offering a new level of price and performance continues to be welcomed by our customers. In 2025, orders were up by more than 30% when compared to last year. Our XM200G single- and double-laser metal printer is being well received in defense, plastic injection molding, medical, and other manufacturing applications. Plus, we continue to receive positive responses to the launch of our XM200G µHD metal printer — which allows customers to print very small parts using 5-15 µm particle size metal powder and has a 25 µm laser spot size — and to the development of our XM300G mid-size four-laser printer.”

I’ve spoken to this company many times and have been impressed by their strategy: keep trying different angles to discover successful tactics. For example, some years ago, they tweaked the size of their build chamber and suddenly unlocked a completely new set of potential customers.

The fruits of their iterative approach are now being seen with the ongoing growth. They’ve put in the work to find a profitable niche in the industry, and they are growing into it.

Their approach is quite different from many other large companies in the 3D print space. Typically, I see companies with a solution looking for a problem, which simply doesn’t work. Those companies tend to fade away — or realize their mistake and become customer-focused.

Another approach often seen is corporate maneuvers to cut costs, sell assets, shuffle executives, acquire other companies, and similar efforts. These moves may look good on paper, but underlying their problems is the simple fact that they must have products that customers actually need and can afford.

It also doesn’t help that many of these companies have accepted venture capital money and are therefore under considerable pressure to deliver massive growth — even though that might not be possible with their current product set.

Xact Metal’s approach is more reasonable and sustainable as a business, and good for their customers as well, although in a smaller market niche.
