A new project on Kickstarter should be of interest to anyone printing gaming parts: PaintStation.
PaintStation solves a big issue in 3D printing of small figurines and for gaming: having an optimal environment for precision painting.
Sure, anyone who paints figurines will have a work setup to do so, be it the kitchen table covered with newspapers, or something more formal. The PaintStation, however, goes well beyond anything most people would use.
It’s an enclosed chamber and accessories that provide not only an area to paint within, but also a tool and paint storage area.
PaintStation is composed of the following components:
- PaintStation Booth, where painting takes place
- Tool wall
- Worksurface for non-painting activities
- Prep deck for washing
- Storage area
The booth is perhaps the most complex of the components, as it includes a complete air filtration system. The system uses both activated carbon and HEPA PM2.5 filters to remove contaminants from the air while painting.
The booth also contains an enclosed (dust-free) drying chamber.
One brilliant addition is a 6000K LED strip that illuminates models to ensure proper colour accuracy is achieved.
The surfaces of the painting area are made from recycled PET, which is easy to clean of stray paint drips.
This is an incredibly impressive package, and it is available in various combinations priced from around US$320 to US$950.
If you’re into painting 3D prints, this could be the best thing you could buy to optimize your workflow.
