Design of the Week: St Christopher

This week’s selection is the St Christopher medallion by jeweler Chris Parry.

Parry, based in South Darenth, Kent, UK, designs custom jewelry for clients. He says:

I make all my jewellery from scratch in my sunny little village workshop in South Darenth, Kent. You can even pop in for a chat, see the workshop and chat to me about your requirements. I don’t fob you off on a part time clueless Saturday assistant. To that end, you will need to book an appointment if you want to have a long chat, I can get pretty booked up.

As you may have guessed from the image, the St Christopher is cast in 9K gold. Parry modeled the object in ZBrush and 3D printed it, presumably in wax, the choice for jewelers. Using the lost-wax casting method, the solid gold print was obtained.

After printing the stones must be set into the piece. We’re not sure what kind of stones are used in the medallion, but it’s a great piece, demonstrating what you can do with 3D modeling and printing. The adventure doesn’t end with the print - much more can happen afterwards.
