This week’s selection is the T-Rex Head Squirrel Feeder by MakerWorld contributor joBin.
This is not a complex 3D print, not at all. What is complex is what happens when it’s used.
It is simply a squirrel feeder, a receptacle containing delicious nuts or seeds for your backyard’s favourite small mammal. The interesting part is that the squirrel has to put its head inside the feeder to get anything to eat.
By suspending the feeder from a wire at the appropriate height, the squirrel then “wears” the T-Rex head and swings around, just like the long-dead dinosaur.
This is a single, easy-to-print 3D model, which can be either a single colour, or dual — for the eye colour. It’s designed to be large enough to prevent normal-sized squirrels from getting their head caught in the feeder — safety first!
This design is most interesting to me because it’s more than just a unique, fun design. It’s actually a representative of a new class of 3D print applications: what other head designs could be made? Could this approach work with other animals?
What about humans?
