Sintratec is gearing up for RAPID + TCT next week to showcase the capabilities of SLS 3D printing beyond prototyping.

North America’s largest 3D printing trade event is coming up quickly, and this Swiss company is ready for another big showing following a successful premiere of the Sintratec S2 system at formnext.

Selective laser sintering (SLS) technology has traditionally been an industrial-quality process with industrial-sized machines to match. Sintratec is among those endeavors working to take reliable SLS 3D printing to the desktop and other smaller, more flexible environments, working with both stiff and flexible materials.

The closed-loop Sintratec S2 will have its US debut at RAPID + TCT, showing industry participants on this continent all that it has to offer.

Features on the S2 are well thought out for what users actually need from an SLS system:

Complete 3D Printing System

The system is designed to cover “all processes from printing to post-processing.” As the Sintratec S2 is designed for prototyping and short-run production, timing and convenience are key. The Sintratec S2’s cylindrical printing area and ring lamps are designed for ideal distribution of heat, which can be monitored in-process with a 4K camera. New print-ready units can be inserted in seconds, allowing for a fast start for the next print job. Once finished, builds can be finished relatively quickly with a de-powdering system and two additional modules (a sand blasting module and a polishing module) for post-processing work.

Modular, Flexible, Scalable

The Sintratec S2 is designed to do the work you need it to do. That means it can scale for production needs, as users can integrate additional modules as needed, like a second Laser Sintering Station (LSS) or another Material Handling Station (MHS). Additionally, the interchangeable Material Core Units (MCU) enable material swapping to be done quickly, with no material contamination. Material variety, output capacity, and other capabilities can thus be adjusted as required for a given user or application need.

The MCU, LSS, and MHS modules make up the three main modules of the S2 system, able to be configured to preference for “minimized downtimes and maximized efficiency.” The machine also has a powder recycling concept, as well as air filtration and powder sieving systems in place.

Additional modules enable the full suite of capabilities. These include the Sintratec Blasting Station (a blasting cabinet), the Sintratec Polishing Station (a magnetic tumbler), and the Sintratec Vortex Unit (a powder management module).

Additionally, the Blasting Station and the Polishing Station (both on the right, on the table) and the Sintratec Vortex Unit (below) are available. The machine brings SLS 3D printing to a multitude of environments, where it can be suited to a multitude of applications. From industrial design to pharmaceuticals, SLS 3D printing has found use in a variety of industries and use cases.

The system was designed with ergonomics in mind, to ensure the user experience is comfortable while producing high-quality prints.

Sintratec will be showcasing the system all week at RAPID + TCT, which runs May 20-23, appearing in booth 1753.
