AMFG launched a new tool that shows how AI can add significant function to AM.

AMFG is a software company providing tools and services to the AM market. The system includes quoting, order management, portal, full traceability, scheduling, post-processing, machine control, and much more. The interesting part is that AMFG has been using a considerable amount of AI in their systems.

Now they’ve done that again with the release of a new tool they call “Sentinel AI”. What is it? It’s a PDF analysis tool.

Hold on, what does that have to do with AM? Well, it could be quite a lot. It seems in the industry there is a gap in the information provided for part production. A company might have the 3D model for a part, as well as the PDF drawing file describing various information about the part.

Normally, a 3D printer operator would have to inspect the 2D PDF file to find out information required to properly set up the print job for the part. This might include identifying the required material, specifying tolerances, surface finishing, or other factors. All of those would have to be incorporated into the print job’s parameters, and time is required for the operator to do that extraction and analysis.

That’s what Sentinel AI is doing. Here’s how it works: The PDF drawings and 3D model are uploaded to Sentinel AI, which then takes less than three seconds to perform the analysis. It then delivers the required information directly, which can be used to set up the job.

This automates part of the process, making it faster. But it also strongly reduces the possibility of human error, providing a secondary benefit.

AMFG customers can make use of this tool to speed up their workflows along with the several other tools from the company. AMFG says their goal is to streamline the operations of their customers, and that seems to be exactly what Sentinel AI is doing.

This also shows yet another way in which AI technology is making life easier for 3D printer operators.

It won’t be the last.
