This week’s selection is the Abstract Hedge wall sculpture by Darya Aulaska of Extrudix.

Netherlands-based Aulaska is a designer that offers a number of highly attractive 3D printed wall sculptures on her Etsy shop. Aulaska’s portfolio includes multiple wall hangings made with 3D printing. Some feature blocks, others have swirls with a focus on geometry that seems to “move”. While all of them are extremely interesting, one in particular caught our eye, the Abstract Hedge.

This is a 600 x 600 mm sculpture designed to hang on a wall. It’s made from dozens of individually 3D printed PLA parts that are mounted on the frame in precise locations.

Aulaska explains the thinking behind the design:

“During a sunny day, I found myself gazing at the hedge in my backyard. That moment of serenity blossomed into this piece: the “Abstract Hedge”. A perfect mix of minimalist wall art with a touch of mid century modern flair. This dimensional artwork brings an edgy wall sculpture vibe to any space. Each piece is thoughtfully crafted, mirroring the abstract shape of nature and contemporary relief.”

The sculpture is available in either 600 x 600 mm or 400 x 400 mm sizes, and in ten different colors.

Aulaska does not provide the 3D model publicly for this or her other items, but instead sells versions on her Etsy site, Extrudix. This particular wall sculpture lists for US$187.40, which is fully assembled and ready for shipment.

These wall hangings demonstrate that the build volume of a 3D printer doesn’t dictate the size of the works that can be produced. Here we have a larger piece made from many smaller pieces that can easily be 3D printed.
