Good news for E3D: they’ve been selected as one of a very few companies in the UK for special support.
E3D, if you don’t know, is one of the leading manufacturers of key components for FFF 3D printers. Their hot ends, nozzles, and extruders are used not only as upgrades for individual machines but also as OEM parts for multiple 3D printer brands worldwide. The company’s products have been so successful that in some cases, their designs have become industry de facto standards.
But what is this support program all about?
It’s the Innovate UK Scaleup Programme, which intends to help very promising companies in scaling up operations. This is often a critical point in the lifecycle of a business, and some companies don’t make it over that hurdle. It seems that the UK authorities believe that E3D can make the transition to a much larger operation.
COO and Founder of E3D, Dave Lamb, explained:
“Being invited onto Innovate UK’s Scaleup Programme is a milestone moment for us at E3D. It recognises not just where we are today but where we can go next: scaling world-class extrusion technology, investing in our people and capabilities, and helping manufacturers around the world push the boundaries of what additive can do.”
Specifically, the program will assist E3D in entering new markets to expand their sales breadth, navigating complex regulations, and modifying processes to dramatically increase product shipments.
E3D seems quite giddy about this development, saying that only a very few companies are accepted into the program after an invitation and multiple layers of “rigorous” qualification.
The result of this program at E3D, if successful, should position the company in a much larger operation in a wider geographical scope. It may also lead to new and innovative products from the company that, hopefully, will make FFF 3D printing even better.
