This week’s selection is a gigantic 3DCP print by Urbacon Trading & Contracting.
3DCP, or concrete 3D printing, is being gradually adopted by construction managers worldwide. As it is relatively new to most of the participants, it’s important to show demonstrations of the capability.
In this case, they have quite a demonstration. According to a LinkedIn post by Muamer Demir, Head of 3DCP Methodology and Senior Construction Manager at UrbaCon Trading and Contracting, they have been using 3DCP to build what is likely one of the largest 3DCP structures ever made.
Demir explains:
”Last night we have done & completed 3,000 m² of printed surface at a height of 4.25 m, forming Level 0 of the future First Floor.
And this is just the beginning.”
You can see in the image above the size of this immense project. Demir explained that they are using the largest BODXL 3DCP printer ever made (they have customizable sizes), and in fact they’re using two of them on this project.
The project appears to be taking place in Ashghal, Qatar, and is some type of public works project.
Demir explained that their next step is to relocate the huge 3D printers, something that has never been done before. They intend on adding another 3000sm to the project.
Projects such as this one demonstrate the scalability of 3DCP technology, particularly that from COBOD. COBOD was one of the first companies to develop a commercial 3DCP device, and they currently market systems that are capable of building multi-storey buildings.
