This week’s selection is the Hands-Free Hand Visor by MakerWorld contributor Emin.

This is precisely what it seems: it’s a 3D-printed hand that shades your eyes. It is equipped with a clip to position it safely on your head, while the “hand” covers up your delicate eyes from the blinding sun.

This is something we all do naturally: when there’s a bright light, we raise our arm and cover our eyes. Now, with the Hands-Free Hand Visor, you don’t even need to do that. Designer Emin explains:

“Peak laziness achieved: I 3D-printed a hand so I don’t have to use my own.”

And:

“Why wear a boring hat or expensive sunglasses when you can strap a brightly coloured, permanent facepalm to your skull? Let the plastic do the heavy lifting so your real hands are completely free for important things, like holding snacks, scrolling on your phone, or giving a thumbs-up to the confused people staring at you.”

There may be other reactions to the “hand”, but that’s for you to find out this summer.

The design features an adjustable strap so that it can fit almost anyone with a head, and you can also choose whether you’d like a left or right hand — but not both.

Will we see these appear at the beach? Possibly, but I suspect only as a temporary gag. But fun nevertheless. Emin concludes:

”Is it stupid? Maybe. Does it work? Absolutely. You gotta hand it to the sun… but now, you don’t have to use your own.”
